There is just something therapeutic about cruising down a backroad with the window down, country music blaring, and your hair flying all over the place. We have been trained to live such an incredibly fast paced life. The employee who gets the most work done in the least amount of time is the best. Siri is programed to send us on the fastest route. Kids are pushed to take AP classes so that they can cut out credits when they get to college. Ricky Bobby said “if you aren’t first, you’re last” & Mr. Bobby is the current day Einstein, right? Ha!
I’m not sure if I’m the only one but I enjoy my dinner much more if the server takes the time to actually talk and share life experiences. Education is great but there is so much knowledge out in this big world that can only be obtained by taking the time to slow down & have meaningful conversation with other people.
While going through school the best classroom memories I have are when the teacher closed the textbook and told real life stories. Those are the teachers I treasure the most & that knowledge is what I cherish.
What if the doctor took the time to get to know his patients instead of trying to get the patient out the door in order to get the next one in? What if Siri sent you the scenic route? What if high school kids got to enjoy that Friday night football game instead of stressing about their college level work load?
Sometimes just taking the long way home is good for the soul.
