Borrowing Trouble From Tomorrow

“Stop borrowing trouble from tomorrow”

I heard this a couple weeks ago, and it has unconsciously popped in my brain more times than I can count. Majority of the time, the cause of anxiety is stressing about something that is coming up in your future. I can’t tell you how many times I have had a bad day, a bad week, or even just a bad couple of hours, because I was stressing about something that was coming up. It can be anything from a meeting with your boss, to a doctor’s appointment, to a dreaded conversation with your significant other. It does not matter the weight of your upcoming moment, any dread will cause anxiety. What if everything was a surprise? What if that meeting with your boss was totally unexpected? What if you didn’t get the chance to stress about things before they happened? Growing up, my dad used to always tell me that by me refusing to worry about the “what if’s”, that I was living in la-la land. I believe that stressing about things that are completely out of your control is wasted energy. It is “borrowing trouble from tomorrow” and ruining what could be a perfectly good day.  If this is la-la land, then I wish everyone would join me.
